TEST BEAM 2007 Dates, Facilities, Safety Cinzia Some key slides from Beniamino Di Girolamo CERN

Aim of the test beam 3Test the FP420 System: 31 hamburg-pipe section with 3D detector blade(s) and timing detectors at room temperature 3Tracking possible using ATLAS micro-strip telescope which can be installed to include the entire system 3Will include: motor tests, irradiated 3D atlas assembly ( 1 single card if cooling available) 3DAQ with ROD (Scott) or Turbo-Daq

Dates and organisation 311-16 October. Request made for few days in November 3It will be in former NA45 area - H8 QNeed of scheduling the installation The 138 door blocks 80-90 m of beam line Normally a crane is available and there will be 1 full day Available to install everything in the beam area –There is a dump: people can work downstream if you are taking data, but not the opposite

Facilities 3What do we need? QTable? Cables? Registration for computers? »Make list as soon as possible QNetwork infrastructure (more than what is already available?) 3Network infrastructure available Q100 Mbit connection QNeed of register equipment

to be decided in the next months: 3ALL SUB DETECTORS: infrastructures, space 3MANPOWER availability 3DAQ choice 3Next meeting’s data 3Equipment transfer dates to Cern

Safety 3These slides do not replace a safety course 3Any of you working in building 887 or in other controlled area must  Follow or followed a Safety training QWear a film badge Temporary ones are easy to obtain from ‘film-badge service’ Long term ones have stricter rules to follow 3Breaking rules is nice, but these rules are for your health!

Building 887 classification 3The building 887 is classified as controlled area  Average dose rate: ≤25  Sv/h  Maximum dose rate (transitory conditions): ≤100  Sv/h QLimit for people under dosimetry control status: 20 mSv in 12 months QThe ALARA principle: As Low As Reasonably Achievable

Basic rules 3Wear your film badge QEvery month (at the beginning) insert it in the reading machines: you are monitored Many around CERN One near gentlemen toilets in 887, Jura side door QThere are frequent visits of radio-protection personnel that will ask you to show your film badge 3The film badge has to be complete QDo not remove labels QIt costs a lot: don’t loose it

In case of need 3For any safety question call coordinator at Q16 3593 3For any accident QCall Fire brigade 74848 QFire or big accident: call 74444 or 112 from any CERN phone

NEVER work alone in the area 3Same is valid in 887 3You are all brilliant and experienced scientists QSurely you can do everything alone BUT… QIf you fail you will be frustrated (minimum) in danger (maximum) QDoing with other people is more fun 3In case you are alone GO HOME 3If you are alone and you need help, before start call someone or call me 3If there is something strange going on call the fire brigade they are around 24/7 (even during CERN holidays…). They are happy when they are useful

In key access 3Only 8 people can access the area 3ONE PERSON ONE KEY 3If more people is needed inside: put the area to FREE ACCESS QVia the beam terminal QOr keep the door open for more than 1 minute 3Safety people is constantly around and they take digital pictures of you: 10-12 people in KEY ACCESS!

Do not push the button on the door! 3Unless it is a real emergency 3Opening the door is very simple QTurn clockwise (completely!) the key QOpen the door 3If the door doesn’t open it means you are not patient QTurn the key completely

Handle

Access key rack

Access situation

Behavior in the area 3Do not leave ladders around 3One of the conditions to close the area QAll ladders to the floor 3All metallic structures for detectors with high voltage or current have to be grounded QRefuse to work in unsafe conditions

Every MD and every time we are in free 3After each MD and every time the zone is in free access, there is the need to patrol the area 3Few individuals have been instructed QThey are registered in the SPS Control Room QThey are the only individuals enabled to do a search patrol

In case of first aid emergency In downstairs counting room

Use common sense 3Safety is also common sense 3There are not special dangers 3Just keep eyes open 3In case of doubts ASK

What else? 3Need of training on the spot? 3Need of training for beam terminal use? 3Beam tuning?  e, ,  for free in a wide energy range
