Wide Angle Photography Module 7

Panoramic Photography is a technique that captures images with elongated fields of view. This generally means a photo measures a ratio of 2:1 or larger, the image being at least twice as long as high.

Panoramas are one type of wide angle photography. Some pano photos cover up to 360 degrees!

Most panoramic photos are of landscapes… but they don’t have to be!

Cityscapes or City Scenes

Gatherings of People

Interior Spaces

If your camera has a Panoramic setting, you can take a "straight" Pano shot

You can also take individual shots with Auto mode and put them together in Photoshop. If you want them to line up, you should use a tripod! Laura Schmidt, Boundary Waters

You can also take individual shots, piece them together in Photoshop and choose not crop if you like the 'mismatched' look.

Take that a step further for extra credit…

Another type of wide-angle photography. A fisheye lens is used to produce strong visual distortion. This creates a wide pano or hemispherical image. Fisheye Photography

These images have an angle of view 100-180°. (vertical, horizontal, and diagonal) You can also manipulate a photograph in Photoshop to create a Fishy look.

Module 7 Assignments: 1.Panorama photograph 2.Fisheye photograph ** What if I have a Panorama and Fisheye setting on my camera??

Christo and Jean Claude http://www.smithsonianmag.com/video/Running-Fence-Revisited.html Large-scale Land/Environmental Artists

Running Fence was 18 feet high and 24.5 miles long. The art project consisted of 42 months of collaborative efforts, 18 public hearings, three sessions at the Superior Courts of California, the drafting of a 450-page Environmental Impact Report and the temporary use of the hills, the sky and the ocean at California's Bodega Bay. 1976

The installation of The Gates in New York's Central Park was completed in February 2005. The 7,503 gates with their free-hanging saffron colored fabric panels seemed like a golden river appearing and disappearing through the bare branches of the trees.

The Umbrellas, a temporary work of art realized in two countries at the same time, reflected the similarities and differences in the ways of life and the use of the land in two inland valleys in Japan and the USA.

The branches of the Wrapped Trees pushed the translucent fabric outward and created dynamic volumes of light and shadow and moving in the wind with new forms and surfaces shaped by the ropes on the fabric. GERMAN BORDER
