NATIONAL MARKING PRACTICES There is no current legislation that supports the marking of weapons according to Article VI All legal imports are jointly controlled by the Ministry of National Security (Police), and the Ministry of Finance (Customs) All markings required include Serial No, Make, Model, Caliber
3
NATIONAL MARKING PRACTICES Within the local LE community, in addition to the duplication of recording weapon serial numbers etc, only temporary marks for rapid identification are made. This is done by the application of highly visible paint on the butt of each weapon
4
NATIONAL MARKING PRACTICES There is no legal requirement that mandates the permanent marking of illegal firearms, and the procedure for recording specific weapon information is conducted by the Police in accordance with regional best practices.
5
NATIONAL MARKING PROCEDURES As earlier stated, in the absence of law, and appropriate marking machinery, only tagging of illegal weapons, or legal weapons seized in the committal of offences is conducted. This will include either a plastic or metal tag bearing necessary details of the weapon, or if it was tampered with, a brief description for evidentiary purposes.
