Gold Gold has many properties. Gold has a melting point of 1064 ̊̊c and a boiling point of 2856̊ ̊c. Gold has a relative density of 19.3 and a 2.5-3 hardness on the mohs scale. It has an atomic mass of 196.97. It has a thermal conductivity of 310 and a symbol of Au. Gold will never rust or tarnish and is a native metal.
4
Why I chose Ballarat We chose to go to Ballarat because it is closer than charters towers and Gympie. It is the 2nd largest gold field in Victoria and the 5 th largest gold field in Australia. There was 12 million ounces of gold found in ballarat.
5
Gold rush The gold rush started because Australia was losing all of its workers to the Californian goldfields which started in 1849.So Edward Hargraves realized that the country near the blue mountains looked liked the gold bearing country of California. He took a group of man to find gold. After he found gold he announced to the country that he found gold.
6
In the 1850s there were many gold mining techniques. Some of the gold mining techniques are panning, fossicking, shaft mining, dry blowing, sluicing, cradling, puddling and dredging. Mining methods
7
Fossicking The mining methods we will use are fossicking and dry blowing. Fossicking is where you use some twigs or metal hooks and they would scrape the ground and the top layer of dirt would go away and the prospector would be able to see any gold nuggets.
8
Dry blowing Dry blowing is when the prospector pours dust from one pan to another and the wind will blow away all the dust. The gold will sink into the pan on the ground because gold is heavy and dust is light.
9
Eureka stockade The eureka stockade happened in 1854.In the eureka stockade 25 people died and it lasted for about 20 minutes. The diggers built a stockade because they were fed up with gold license fines. The miners flag is the southern cross.
10
Provisions The provisions we will take are 1 donkey, canned food,€ 100, a gold license, tent, salted beef and pork, 2 pans, bucket, metal hooks, twigs, and 2 pairs of clothes.

Problems and solutions Problems Attacked by a bushranger Run out of food and/or money Find fools gold Solutions Say that you have no gold Steal food/money Change mining spot
