Symptoms of APD The DSM-IV describes signs of APD as: -Actions that disregard the rights of others -Deceitfulness -A lack of remorse after harming or wronging others -An inability to follow social norms

Diagnosing APD Several tests can be used to determine if a patient has APD, including: Physical exams Lab tests Psychological Evaluation

Etiology Specific causes of APD are largely unknown, but psychologists have offered a few different possibilities: Abnormalities in the nervous system Mothers Smoking Abusive Family Environment

Treating APD APD has been shown to be one of the most difficult mental disorders to treat with normal techniques. Psychologists recommend: Firm but fair personality programming Antidepressants Mood Stabilizers

Prognosis Unfortunately, APD sufferers are unlikely to be able to fully recover, because due to them not being able to deal with social norms because of their disease, a large amount of patients end up in prison, or refuse any treatment

Statistics 7.6 million (or 3.6 percent) of the American people have been diagnosed with APD Several famous serial killers fit the symptoms of APD
