Who is this Glooscap? Glooscap is a Native American Deity Said to have created the world and animals Able to do…anything Glooscap is portrayed in many different Regions Abeneki, Mi’kmak, Penobscot This myth is a combination of Mi’kmak and Abeneki.

I need some visuals… Glooscap memorial in Nova Scotia Glooscap here is an important figure for the Abenaki of the United States, and the Canadian tribes of the Passamaquoddy and Mi'kmaq. He's featured in many versions of Creation myths and is praised as a cultural hero and warrior.

What happens? Glooscap never grows old and he cannot die because the people rely on him. He was the creator of animals. He created his animals large at first, and realized they were destructive so he made them their current size. He created people with hands and feet and taught them what they needed to survive. He also created people with webbed hands and feet which were believed to be Kappa’s There was only one source of water that the people relied on, however a giant monster hogged all the water and refused to share it. Glooscap decided to talk to the giant monster. Right when the monster was about to swallow him, he grew larger and sliced the monster, releasing the water to the swamp. The giant monster deflated and became the current frog with bumpy skin.

Purpose? Probably just Entertainment Creation Myth; One of many Shows how Glooscap created life on earth; namely animals Teaches Native Indians about how life on earth began Later on it becomes a history lesson for students in classes.

Conclusion Glooscap was an important hero figure for the Native Americans. The myth was a significant part of the Native American culture because it was a creation myth that it helped explain how some animals became to be what they are today.
