Nanabush Named all the plants and animals. Nanabush is considered to be the founder of Midewiwin. Thought to be the inventor of fishing and hieroglyphs. Is a shape-shifter and a co-creator of the world. Kitche-Manitou Great spirit/God Significant People

Mistahimaskwa (Big Bear) Born around 1825 near Jackfish Lake Began establishing himself as a leader in the late 1850s- 1860s. In 1871 he was the leading chief of the Prairie River People. Mistahimaskwa refused to sign Treaty No. Six Significant People

Because of weather conditions the population was low For many people it was hard to survive the harsh winter It was estimated there was 60,000 people or fewer most of the people lived in communities of 25-30 people Population

Hunted: pretty much all the animals in the area they hunted and would either cook or smoke to eat Includes deer, moose, bear, rabbit etc. Gathered: fruits, nuts, roots and wild rice They cultivated some foods aswell This would include squash, beans, corn and sometimes tobacco Ate pemmican: mix of berries, grease and animal meat (could be preserved for years) Diet
