Digital storytelling: Refers to a short digital media production that grants people the ability to contribute their life story to aid and learning Blogging: Is the process of posting subject matter on a blog (shortened version of “web log”; a web site that incorporates an online personal memoir) Video recordings: A digital recording of a lecture that captures audio and video Online fan fiction websites: Defined by fans of authentic works of literature writing stories about popular characters EXPLANATION OF TERMS

Itunes provides students access to podcasts and reading materials needed for class Panopto is a program that allows students to connect to video recordings and webcasting recorded by the instructor It allows instructors to record, live stream, and edit videos to post for their students D2L and blackboard administrates a connection between the student and teacher to transmit course content EXAMPLES OF WHERE TO FIND NEW TECHNOLOGIES

Most of the websites used for learning purposes are free to use, however, students who do not own a computer will have to find a means to access the sites. Instead of using books in some schools, teachers may have access to reserve electronic equipment to use in their lesson plan New apps are being created for students that allow them to interact with teachers outside of class Some programs may require a subscription fee to be used in class COST OF NEW LITERACIES

PROS: Enhance learning More engaging for students Free programs Programs are diverse to allow for different learning styles CONS: Some teachers may not know how to use new technologies Students may not have the ability to access the programs Some expensive programs Traditional parents may not understand the new teaching technique PROS & CONS
