Drought Contingency Plan (2010) Purpose “The purpose of the DCP is to minimize drought impacts by improving agency coordination; enhancing monitoring and early warning capabilities; water shortage impact assessments; and preparedness, response, and recovery programs. “ 2

Communication & Coordination Structure (Figure 1, following SEMS) Federal State Regional Operational Area/County Cal EMA (Support Agency) Interagency Drought Task Force Drought Monitoring Committee & Impact Assessment Work Groups Tribal Governments Following SEMS: Issues, needs and requests move up the chain from Local Government to the Operational Area to the State level for assistance City/Special District Federal Drought Action Team Department of Water Resources (Lead Agency) 3

Drought Contingency Plan Part of the CWP process Updated every 5 years or as needed Will include updated information, technology, and strategies 4

DWR Drought Coordinator Prepare for, plan and coordinate drought response Implement drought programs and policies Advise on water issues and concerns Increase public awareness of drought & conservation International outreach (Australia, etc.) 5

Drought Monitoring Committee/ Impact Assessment Work Groups Members from agencies responsible for monitoring weather, water supply or impacts Monitor water supply and drought conditions—objective is to develop “early warning” Assess impacts on sectors and regions Provide on-going information and web- based reports 6

Work for Update 2013 on Drought Contingincy Plan Assist DWR Drought Coordinator in activities identified for action in 2010 DCP (Formation of Drought Monitoring Committee and Impact Assessment Work Groups).
