The tundra biome is the coldest of all biomes Temperature: -34 degrees F. located in the artic circle, which is a circle that surrounds the north pole
4
One of the most fragile biomes on earth Receives 6-10 inches of rain including melting snow As dry as the driest desert
5
Animals to be aware of: Arctic wolf Polar bear Arctic fox Wolverine Grizzly bears
6
HUGE biodiversity of plants and animals Animals: polar bear Walrus Arctic hair harp seal lemming arctic fox caribou etc.
7
Plants: Arctic willow Arctic poppy Cushion plant Bear berry Pasque flower Arctic moss Caribou moss Lichen Etc.
9
Ecological concerns: Global warming Pollution that causes smog and can affect lichen which is a good food source for many animals Human activity Ozone depletion at Poles causes stronger ultraviolet rays that will harm the tundra. Oil spills Exploration of oils and gas
10
Solutions for ecological concerns: Create park reserves protected areas and to restrict human activity Respect local cultures and limit tourism Use other energy uses to prevent global warming made by humans Don’t have lots of road construction, mining, and pipeline building near the tundra
