Easter is preceded by forty days of Lent which starts on Ash Wednesday.

The Sunday before Easter is called Palm Sunday and this day is the beginning of Holy Week. People come to churches with palms to have them blessed. This is to commemorate the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem.

Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday are referred to as the Easter Triduum. Holy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostols.

Good Friday commemorates the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

A very interesting custom is maintained on Saturday when people go to the church in order to have their food blessed. This traditional food is above all eggs which are painted in different colours and patterns, ham or sausage, bread, salt and piece of Easter cake with raisins.

The central day of Easter is Easter Sunday. The Christian feast of the Resurrection of Jesus. On this day many families gather together at breakfast. Generally presents are not given on Easter, except for some regions of Poland, for example Wielkopolska where chocolate eggs and sweats are given to children by rabbits.

The day after Easter is known as Easter Monday. On this day there is a custom of sprinkling water relatives and friends. It is the last day of Easter celebration.
