2   Oldest of 4 children  Father (Stable Keeper) gets trampled when Keats is 8  Learned of suffering and loss  Family in financial ruin. Mother remarries quickly, loses family money, runs away  Keats is left with grandmother  Mother returns years later to family, dies of tuberculosis Early Life

3   Shortly after father’s death, goes to Enfield Academy to focus on arts and literature  Meets John Clark (headmaster) who he looks up to as a father  Grandmother lets an accountant take control of family finances  He keeps a tight hold on all money, leads to Keats having to drop out of school  Studies to become a surgeon and becomes an apothecary  Falls in love with Fanny Brawne  Falls ill with tuberculosis, travels to Italy with a friend  Never sees Fanny again  Doctor says eat an anchovy and a piece of bread only every day to minimize blood in body  He wanted to die to end suffering  Held friend’s hand at death moment Adult Life

4   Had no passion for medicine  Leigh Hunt (Sent to prison for libel against a Prince) mentors Keats and his writing  Committed himself to writing 40 lines a day  Daring and Bold style met with criticism, made Keats doubt his work  Brother falls ill with tuberculosis, stops all writing  Last works were published long after his death by his few admirers His Writing
