8.4 The Slope-Intercept Form of a Linear Equation Objective: To use the Slope-Intercept Form of a linear equation. Warm – up: Solve each equation for y in terms of x. 1)2y = 4x – 10 2) 3x + y = 43 3) 4y – 7 = 2x + 9 Find the value for y if x = 0.

8.4 The Slope-Intercept Form of a Linear Equation Find the slope of each line by finding two points and calculating their slope. o 4x + 2y = 8 o -3x – 2y = 6 o -x + 4y = 12 o 5x – 10y = 25

8.4 The Slope-Intercept Form of a Linear Equation Slope-Intercept Form o For all real numbers m and b, the graph of the equation y = mx + b is the line whole slope is m and whose y-intercept is b. o A y-intercept is the point that sits on the y-axis. o It is where the line crosses the y-axis. Find the slope and y-intercept of each line. o y = -2x + ½ o y = x – 3 o y = -½x + 4 o y = 5x – 8

8.4 The Slope-Intercept Form of a Linear Equation Use only the slope and y-intercept to graph each equation. o y = 2x + 1 o y = -⅓ x – 2
