32 32 Upgrade Procedure Hierarchy All maintenance procedures are organized into a hierarchy of categories, product families, tasks, steps, and substeps: Categories represent major groupings of tasks and steps that must be completed during the project. These categories often correspond to chapters in the source documentation. Product Families are broad groupings of tasks and steps related to a particular category of the project. Typically, Product Families relate to groups of related products or aspects of the project such as Database Upgrade steps. Tasks are specific groupings of related activities, often associated to a specific Applications module. Steps are the actions that must be completed during the project. Each step includes one or more of the following substeps : 1.Setup 2.Execute (always present) 3.Validate

35 35 Maintenance Wizard Installation Set up a shell. You must set up either remote shell (rsh/remsh) or secured shell (ssh). The tool will not work without having at least one of these shells successfully configured. For release 1.x, Install a new standalone Oracle 9i ORACLE_HOME for use by the Maintenance Wizard. The Maintenance Wizard version 1.x requires Oracle RDBMS 9i with iAS (9.2.0.6). This is the ONLY VERSION of the RDBMS which is certified to work with the MW. In addition, we recommend that you do not attempt to "re-use" an existing 9i database. For release 2.x, Install a new standalone Oracle 10g ORACLE_HOME for use by the Maintenance Wizard. The Maintenance Wizard version 2.x requires a 10g Oracle_Home for RDBMS and iAS (Two Separate Oracle Homes) NOTE: You CANNOT use the same database that the Applications are running in. The tool must be installed in a separate database from the Applications.
