Starter: Organising your Folder This is really important – your folder is going to stay with you up until your exam next year. Please neatly label your dividers: Materials and Components Process and Manufacture Design and Market Influences Projects Keywords Then put them into your folder with your title page. Put your front cover into the front of your folder.

Expectations for the Year Try your best with all your work Everything you do this year is preparation for your coursework and exam, and you should be able to use all of your classwork for revision next year. Treat Everyone as You’d like to Be Treated Don’t talk whilst anyone is addressing the class Respect everyone's ideas Listen to and Follow Directions Hand all homework in on time All homework will be used in future lessons. if something happens, come and speak to me as soon as possible. If you can’t print it, email it or bring it on a USB No phones/iPods/headphones out in class In line with school policy, if I see them they will be confiscated. Come prepared Bring at least 2 pens (1 will always run out when you need it!) and at least 1 pencil If you have them, rulers, colouring pencils, compasses can be handy There is nothing wrong with asking for help But you need to ask a question! ‘I don’t get it’ doesn’t help me help you. Mistakes are good Some of the best ideas come from mistakes

Design Brief A major production company is planning to launch a new movie in the UK in the coming year. They have approached you to design the main publicity (film poster) and promotional items (DVD and packaging). The final design must be presented A4 size, in full colour with accompanying DVD and DVD packaging. On the sheet in front of you, highlight the keywords in the design brief. Think about what you are being ask to produce. Promotional Methods Film studios will invest in expensive marketing campaigns to maximize revenue early in the release cycle. Marketing budgets tend to equal anywhere between half or three times the production budget. These campaigns include: Trailers in cinemas and on television, film posters, standees (freestanding paperboard life size images), television and radio adverts, online advertising such as websites and banner ads, social media promotions, merchandise such as soft toys, promotional giveaways (e.g. in fast food outlets) and viral videos Learning Objectives: To be aware of a variety of promotional methods using graphic products.

Now you’ve looked at a variety of film posters, return to your desk. Use the notes around the poster to answer the ACCESSFM questions on your sheet. Function How well does the product work? How easy is it to use? Client How is the product designed to attract its customer? Function How could it be improved? Extension: using the original poster and the questions you just answered, redesign the poster to better promote the film. Remember your spelling and grammar, and always write in full sentences
