This presentation describes how to save files so that they cannot be changed by any user. This technique is a simple way of giving access to documents, exercises and assignments and particularly useful when distributing documents over an intranet. It assumes every user will have MSWord installed locally. The same saving process can be used with MSExcel

Click file, save as

Click the tools button, then general options

Click the read-only recommended button, then OK

Save your file in an appropriate folder as you would normally

Now when the document in opened the user will only be able to open the document as a read- only document

When the user tries to save or close the document they will be prompted by the office assistant.

If the user chooses yes they will have to rename the document and save a copy.
