Overview

Star = giant ball of gas which releases energy produced by nuclear fusion in its core 1. Clouds of cold molecular hydrogen 2. Clouds collapse 3. Clouds fragments into many pieces 4. Pieces become individual stars 5. Pieces continue to collapse until ….. 6. Ignition of nuclear fusion (74% hydrogen, 25% helium, and 1% combination carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen)
6
Stars = different sizes Supergiant stars :100 to 1000X larger Giants stars: 10 to 100X larger Dwarf stars :1000X smaller Stars = ball shaped Look pointed because of moving air
7
Stars do not last forever Stars stop shining…..not enough fuel Stars…..fade out or explode Old stars…..new stars
9
Stars’ life = different stages Smaller = Longer Life Millions or billions of years to complete stages Few million years for a gas cloud to collapse and become a star Stars 50 times the mass of our sun = 10 million years Stars with 1/100 the mass of our sun = one trillion years
