1 A Multiplication Algorithm
Partial Products A Multiplication Algorithm

2 Partial Products “In the Partial Products algorithm, each factor is thought of as a sum of ones, tens, hundreds and so on.” This method relies on the understanding of place value and requires students to think of the whole number – not the individual digits. Each part of one factors is multiplied by each part of the other factor. Then all of the products are added. This method uses the Distributive Property of Multiplication repeatedly. This method previews a procedure for multiplication that is used in algebra classes in junior high and high school. Based on EM resources

To find 67 x 53, think of 67 as and 53 as Then multiply each part of one sum by each part of the other, and add the results. 3,000 Calculate 50 X 60 350 Calculate 50 X 7 180 Calculate 3 X 60 21 + Calculate 3 X 7 3,551 Add the results

4 1 4 X 2 3 200 80 30 12 + 322 Here is another one... Add the results
Calculate 10 X 20 80 Calculate 20 X 4 30 Calculate 3 X 10 12 + Calculate 3 X 4 322 Add the results
