Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) Father of psychological thrillers- combines horror and mystery Gambling problem, dropped out of college Joined army, got dismissed Very dark, depressing writings Never made much money while alive Someone leaves 3 roses & a bottle of cognac on his grave every year- no one knows who or why

Why so crazy ? Father abandoned his family Mother died when he was very young Step dad was too hard, then to lenient (bipolar) Married his young cousin who died soon after their marriage began
