The Leadership Award - what are the benefits to learners?

Building leadership skills and qualities, building self esteem and confidence in speaking with peers as well as staff across the school and in the wider community Developing organisational and time management skills Contributes to enhancing the self esteem and self awareness of students in relation to the contribution they can make to the school and society

Developing self management and independent learning skills in preparation for Further and Higher Education Helps students to understand the impact they can have on others and on the success of an activity Encourages reflective learning

Significant contribution to students preparation for university, college, training and employment Builds the confidence that students have in their own leadership abilities

What advice would you give to centres thinking about delivering the Award?

Students need to be committed to taking on a project with little direction from the tutor Tutoring might include delivering the instruments of assessment in a structured and progressive way – with clearly identified deadlines for the completion of each task

Being able to work better independently Ability to work on projects that you might not otherwise have the opportunity to It was fun!

It has helped my confidence grow and given me a good sense of achievement. It has also strengthened relationships with staff and fellow students It was useful for CVs An awareness of the commitment needed to make something a success like arranging a talent show and have contingency plans incase something goes wrong

It does take up so much time to make a project happen and still enjoy the course It is a great opportunity to lead a group of people That to be organised is essential to be an effective leader
