The DAR Budget: why we are meeting FY14 total costs = 3.7 million dollars Sources of funds: State funding = 1.3 million dollars ($XXX per PI every year) Animal purchases = 0.3 million dollars PI paid per diem = 0.9 million dollars VCR contributions = 1.2 million dollars

The DAR Deficit: Factors Investigator use has declined. Operating expenses have increased same as the rest of the University.

Recommendations The group recommends a staged approach for soliciting financial support: 1.Encourage an academic unit subsidy 2.Reduce DAR operational costs Reduction of under used facility spaces Better technology 3.Escalation of per diem charges 4.Fees on charges paid from unrestricted accounts such as gifts or general funds
