Workshop outline Introductions Core and other skills – what others? What opportunities exist to do this? What more is needed?

Getting to know you…activity 1 The purpose of this activity is to get to know the people in your group. Draw a picture of a pig. You have 2 minutes for this individual activity. Use your teams analysis sheet to find out the characteristics of the people round the table. You have 5 minutes to complete this activity Does anybody want to move now you know who you are dealing with???

Core and other transferable skills - activity 2 SQA support includes SQA –Signposting in units –Arrangements documents –Discreet units in Core Skills –Guides to signposting and case studies of how some centres implement this –Assessment Support Packs –Contextualised case studies –Understanding Standards Website –Showcase events –Mini action research projects… How much and how explicitly is this shared with learners???

Core and other – what others? - activity 3 The purpose of this activity is to reach consensus on the critical, generic skills needed for success in NQGAs. Consider Poster 1 – weve started it off with the 5 Core Skills plus some from the Scotlands Skills Strategy. Use pens to add any others you think are critical. This will provide our list of essential skills for the next activity You have 2 minutes to complete this activity

Opportunity knocks… - activity 4 Consider the 4 questions on your pink sheet. In groups of 4 or 5, discuss individual answers and decide on the 2 considered to be the most important for each question. Put each answer on a post it. Now stick post its to the centre of relevant target sheet. Hang your target sheets on the wall. Lets see what others think…
