9 NGOs/NPOs and Sustainability As part of its collaboration with NGOs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) evaluates and discusses ODA programs that are implemented jointly by MOFA and NGOs. As a result, both parties have come to understand each other better and thus are able to work out ideal cooperation schemes.

11 NGOs/NPOs and Sustainability Japan’s NPO Law … 1 (Law to Promote Specified Nonprofit Activities) This law aims to contribute to the public interest by promoting the sound development of specified nonprofit activities as voluntary activities (such as volunteer activities performed by citizens to contribute to society) "specified nonprofit corporation" is any organization that performs nonprofit activities

12 NGOs/NPOs and Sustainability Japan’s NPO Law … 2 (Law to Promote Specified Nonprofit Activities) The law enables NPOs to work with governments, hire staff members and collect money for their activities NPOs can also apply for government funds for their activities. The law is strict in making NPOs have proper financial records, etc.
