2 Karen L. Miller, Spring DCON 20052 Grants There are essentially three basic grants available to the USCG Auxiliary flotillas and divisions Two from BoatU.S. One from National Safe Boating Council

3 Karen L. Miller, Spring DCON 20053 Grants BoatU.S. Grass Roots Grants – up to $4,000. Opens around July 1 st and closes around October 30 th. Recently use focus topic: 2004 = CO; 2005 = Life Jackets

4 Karen L. Miller, Spring DCON 20054 Grants BoatU.S. Clean Water Grants – up to $4,000. Opens around November 1 st and closes around January 30 th. Recently use focus topic: 2004 = Aquatic Nuisance Species

5 Karen L. Miller, Spring DCON 20055 Grants National Safe Boating Council Local RBS Grants – up to $1,000. Opens around October 25th and closes around January 25 th. Topics should reduce accidents and enhance the boating experience

6 Karen L. Miller, Spring DCON 20056 Grants What does the POC Grants do? Background I worked for many years with the Department of Boating on the National Staff. My area of responsibility was grants and working with these various organizations

7 Karen L. Miller, Spring DCON 20057 Grants What does the POC Grants do? D7 Responsibility I can help flotilla and division members comply with the requirements of the grants

8 Karen L. Miller, Spring DCON 20058 Grants What does the POC Grants do? I will review the applications and make suggestions to assist the members give the organizations what they are looking for. Voluntary – not mandatory

9 Karen L. Miller, Spring DCON 20059 Transition Before we go onto Publications, any questions on Grants? One footnote: see about members who work for large firms – they will often provide grants for member’s volunteer hours. Usually unrestricted and in the range of $500

12 Karen L. Miller, Spring DCON 200512 Publications As a unit leader you have the ultimate responsibility for its contents. Meeting USCG Aux criteria –Distribution requirements Meeting publication standards –Spelling; grammar, punctuation, etc.

13 Karen L. Miller, Spring DCON 200513 Publications You should encourage your PB officer to submit the newsletter for annual judging at the beginning of the year. Builds pride in members Provides prestige to unit Forwarded to National for judging
