5 Past Bay Area Projects…  Puppet show that addressed issues around illegal immigrants  Play about what to do if you find a gun (produced after a schoolmate shot himself)  Video interviewing ex-gang members  Book of poems A through Z to help teach younger kids how to read  Interviewed Oakland Mayoral Candidate and researched Oakland History  “Five alive song" about the poor quality of fruits and vegetables found in the Bayview (performed live at City Hall)

6 Service Learning is more than just…  The Park or School Clean Up  The Nursing Home Visit  The Red Cross Disaster Relief Donation  The Canned Food Drive

7 Program Requirements  All teams must meet for at least 2 hours each week.  All classes must take place at a regularly scheduled time and classroom.  Prepare for class!  Incorporate journaling and poetry  All students participate in community service for at least 2 hours (not including prep and reflection)
