3 MISSION To inform the people through the media about Government’s policies and programmes To empower people and enable them to become partners in progress To give feedback to the Govt. based on media reports 3

4 Functions and Activities Nodal agency to disseminate authentic information to the media on various plans, policies, programmes, initiatives and achievements of Government of India. Formulates and implements Media strategy for various Ministries Provides feedback to the Government based on media reports received from across the country through its R/B offices. Also provides vital informal feedback received from the Media-persons who are in regular touch with PIB on daily basis 4

5 Organisational Structure Headed by Pr.DG, Special Secretary to Government of India. At headquarters, PIB officers are attached to various ministries and function as their official spokespersons and assist them in media management. Eight regional and 34 branch offices spread across the country 5

6 Publicity Tools Press releases, press conferences, features, backgrounders,photographs Informal background briefings, facilitating access of media to the authorized official sources - Union Ministers, senior officials Press tours to sites to showcase success stories based on Centre’s schemes and programmes 6

9 Structure of PIC  Coordinated by Press Information Bureau.  Organized in collaboration with DFP, S&DD, DAVP, Prasar Bharati and other media units of Ministry of I&B.  PIC combines – talk shows, lectures, panel discussions, exhibitions, direct-marketing, direct intervention programs (e.g. health camps), slide shows and films & magic shows, success stories, press tours etc. – all laced with informative entertainment.  Discussions, exhibition and S&D program etc. showcasing Government of India’s welfare programmes.  Stalls of various Central / State Government Departments, PSUs, NGOs and Self Help Groups. 9

10 SALIENT FEATURES 3-5 day campaign organised at a rural venue in collaboration with other media units. Solicit people’s participation in Govt. of India programs/policies. Elicit public response/feedback. Communication strategy combines information dissemination with the delivery of services at the doorsteps of the beneficiaries. Participation of state, district and block level implementing agencies helps combine delivery of message as well as service. 10
