Conflict Begins… Navigation Acts (1651): No country could trade with the colonies unless through English ships All vessels must be run by crews that are ¾ English or Colonial Certain products only exported to England (Sugar, tobacco, molasses, etc) Almost all goods traded between colonies and Europe must first pass through English ports

French & Indian War 1754-1763 Conflict in North America between British and French Ended with Treaty of Paris (1763) Ended French occupation in America Proclamation Line of 1763—prohibited colonists from settling West of App. Mountains

Conflict Begins… “No Taxation Without Representation!” Boston Massacre—British soldier fires on a mob, kills 5 Americans Partially repealed Townshend Acts Boston Tea Party—refused to lift tax on tea & gave rights to British company So, Americans dumped it all into Boston Harbor Intolerable Acts Quartering of Soldiers
