2 Participial Phrases A participial phrase contains a participle and other accompanying words. The participial phrase could have a present participle (ending in –ing) or a past participle (ending in –ed). Example: Acting quickly, the girl caught the glass before it fell.

3 Participial Phrases A participial phrase can be used to modify, or tell about, a subject. Example: The baby, laughing happily, played with her toys.

4 Participial Phrases Identify the participial phrase and the subject it modifies in each of the following sentences: They waited as the bus, groaning noisily, came to a stop.

5 Participial Phrases Identify the participial phrase and the subject it modifies in each of the following sentences: Snacking on popcorn, the kids watched a funny movie.

6 Participial Phrases Identify the participial phrase and the subject it modifies in each of the following sentences: The audience watched the dancers performing on the stage.
