1 1 Democracy and Education I’ve come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It’s my personal approach that creates the climate. It’s my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child’s life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration.

19 19 Democracy and Education Course Requirements: 1. Class Participation: Each student is expected to attend all class sessions, complete assigned readings and exercises, reference WWW resources prior to class meetings, and contribute through active participation in class activities and discussions.

22 22 Democracy and Education 4. Group Power Point Presentation: Working in groups of four or five, students will be asked to lead class participation in a group presentation during Weeks Nine and Ten of the quarter.

23 23 Democracy and Education 5. Final Essay: This will be an essay of at least 1000 words that integrates the student’s thinking on the major ideas covered in this course
