Time Frame {average is eight hours per book if generic option is used, fifteen if book specific} Use existing software – you can always add to the tour Allow for QA, Alpha & Beta versions When is the deliverable date? Do you currently have the software or do you have to order it? Does the software exist? QA is a must Alpha versions are bare bones for obvious revisions Beta versions are for functional tweaks/approval

Identify Style Generic Technology components {ala Math} Book Specific Technology {ala Social Studies} Generic style allows for showcasing of the technology component is less expensive and can be repurposed. Book Specific allows for showcasing the book and is more expensive.

Type Online only CD only Online/CD/other How do you want to deliver the product? Online only does not mean it can be put on a CD or other tangible device. –Items such as auto-launchers and icons have not been taken into account. CD only does not mean it can be put on Online. –Urls have not been assigned. Online/Cd/Other means Media Technology has planned for all needed coding

Clearly List Book and Software Word Table Spreadsheet Excellent example:

Clearly List Book and Software Word Table Spreadsheet Poor example:

Use Script Templates Correctly Clearly indicate what you want – do not assume

Provide Screen Grabs Use naming conventions given Use proper format Identify clearly video Naming convention allows for easy identification of files, easy direction for on screen display Glencoe Answer Key Maker screen AA_AKM_01.jpg AA_AKM_02.jpg AA_AKM_03.jpg AA_AKM_04.jpg AA_AKM_05.jpg AA_AKM_06.jpg AA_AKM_07.jpg Format is essential to allow images to be massaged and inserted into action scripts.jpg is the only format for static images Identify clips with timing and description within the script Title screen Unit 5 0:25 Video clip Unit 5 1:15-1:25 Video clip with closed captioning Unit 5 1:58-2:10

Music Choice Use existing music Want to select {adds time to production} If you want to use existing music it is already licensed. If you want to select something different we will need to provide samples and reserve time for selection.

Voice Talent New {adds time to production} Use existing talent New voice talent means selection process that adds time to your budget but if you need to serve a special market need this is always an option. Existing talent cuts down on selection time but remember availability is a factor in recording and updates for both new and existing talent.

Identify Desired Menu Structure PowerPoint Flow Chart Pen & Paper Copy {adds time to production}

Display Color Scheme Use existing color scheme Change color scheme New color scheme Order Book cover display Menu verbiage Keep Current scheme Change –Give specific colors Order –Give exact listings of titles, components Book Cover Display –What order, single, stacked or fanned Menu Verbiage –Give verbiage in the way you want it to appear

“Can you just…” statements =Time off target and more $$ 1-10-100 rule applies Changes require time and money –“Can you just…”isn’t always that simple –Changes made early are less expensive than changes made after graphics, programming or QA have been done. –For example -on a four week project Changes made week one cost $1 Changes made week two cost $10 Changes made week three cost $100
