R: I did a letter to the author. Friday January 24, 2014 Dear Mr. Goldblatt, My name is Nicholas Lamb and I am in the 6 th grade at Birmingham Covington School in Birmingham, MI. I just finished your book Twerp and I really enjoyed your story. I thought your story had a lot of rising action, which I learned about in my Language Arts class. The book had a lot of dramatic dialogue, which was very vivid. I am learning to write stories with dialogue, so it was helpful for me to read your dialogue. Through Julian’s experience, I learned that when god talked about forgiving he did not only say to forgive each other, he also said to forgive yourself. The story taught me that with time and desire, people can overcome their mistakes. Forgiveness is an important part of life. I try to forgive people in my own life, like my two brothers and sister, when you do something to me that I do not like. I really liked the intensity of the storyline. It really kept my interest throughout the story. Will you be writing a sequel to Twerp? Is your character Julian based on anyone that you know? Did you know in 6 th grade that you would become a writer? Did you always love writing stories? Your book showed me a lot about writing dialogue. I really enjoyed your story and hope to read more of your stories for my Response and Exploration projects (for books read). Sincerely, Nicholas Lamb
