Brief Description Main theme: Development and optimization of biological conversion of Jordan’s biomass into biofuels. Bioconversion process: (1) Biomass collection and characterization (2) Biomass thermal hydrolysis (3) Biological conversion into biofuels (4) Biofuel recovery
14
Brief Description Three stages: Bioconversion in lab scale: Feedstock collection, experimental setup, Acid/Enzyme hydrolysis, Fermentation, Recovery Bioconversion in pilot scale Energy integration, Economical, and Life cycle assessments.
15
Objectives Explore cheap sugar production from renewable feedstock in Jordan. Design novel biorefinery process that could generate biofuels and high added-value products competitive to gasoline. Develop versatile biorefinery platform to wide range of organic waste other than agricultural residues.

Scope, Duration, Budget Scope of work: 3 years Develop economical competitive process for bioconversion of biomass, available in Jordan, to liquid fuels (ethanol). Project duration : Project estimated budget : 200,000 JD
20
Action Plan
21
Expected output 1. Inventing scalable bioconversion process. The process capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure(OPEX) would be at minimal level. 2. The designed process is multipurpose; it could be reconfigured into another arrangement. 3. The work may lead to a potential patent.
22
Impact and sustainability Converting priceless agricultural waste into valuable biofuel. Expanding the agricultural areas. Creating job opportunities. Enhancing multidisciplinary collaboration. Open new market for agricultural crops/residues. Enhance energy security. Reduce the green house gases. Sustainability: Impact:
