What does ‘E-Safety’ mean ?

It means electronic safety. It is about how to stay safe when using different technologies as well as staying safe whilst ‘online’ What does ‘E-Safety’ mean ?

It means when we use the internet. What does ‘online’ mean ?

Interesting Facts There are over 637 million websites – that is ten times the number of people that live in the United Kingdom! Facebook has 1.2 Billion users – there are about 7 billion people on earth – 17% of humans are Facebook users! 250 Billion emails are sent daily! A Google search takes less than half a second!

We get to use this technology in lessons to do research and find out information; to do revision; to do MyMaths; to use Bug Club/Lexia and many more! It is VERY IMPORTANT that you only go on what your teacher has told you because they know what websites are safe to use Using the internet safely

If you do have an account, you should only use it where an adult can supervise you – downstairs instead of upstairs. TOP TIPS - Only ‘add’ people that you know. - NEVER give out personal information (phone number, email address, home address, name of your school) -NEVER arrange to meet anyone you meet online.

TOP TIPS - Get an adult to check that your ‘privacy settings’ are appropriate. - Remember that anything you write on the internet stays there forever.

Cyber-bullying - Sometimes people say unkind things either on: Facebook, BBM, email, text, Xbox Live or Playstation Network

Tell an adult – either your parent or a teacher. We can help

BLOCK IT! Block people who do send nasty messages and never open attachments or links from people that you don’t know. They might have a virus and stop your computer working!
