2. Roles of Responsibility at Wat’s Dyke School This week you will have the opportunity to put yourself forward for the role as a: - School Councillor - Eco Councillor - Sport/Health Councillor (Year 6) -House Captain (Year 6) -School Prefect (Year 6) -Playground Buddy (Year 6)

3. Role of School Council To speak on behalf of their class and feedback any ideas / suggestions to the council members. To think of appropriate ways of improving the school, in order to be a happy and improved place for working, learning and caring together. To be involved in decisions that directly affects the pupils. To present findings to the school community including members of the Governing body. 4. Role of Eco-Committee To look after the environment around our school and local area. To encourage staff and pupils to save energy and raise awareness of environmental issues (eco days). To develop the eco action plan and write the eco code. To complete the environment review. To present findings to the school community including members of the Governing body. 5. Role of Sport/ Health Council To speak on behalf of their class and feedback any ideas / suggestions. To think of appropriate ways of improving pupils’ health and wellbeing. To be involved in decisions that directly affects pupils health and wellbeing. To lead on activities for promoting healthy and active lifestyles. To present findings to the school community including members of the Governing body. To represent their House of Alyn, Dyfrdwy, Clywedog or Gwenfro in sporting events. 6. Role of House Captain To represent their House of:- Alyn, Dyfrdwy, Clywedog and Gwenfro. To encourage good behaviour and hard work in others through the promotion of house points. To collect and record and present weekly totals of house points gained by pupils in each house. To encourage a competitive spirit in order to triumph in the School Eisteddfod- cystadleuaeth. 7. Role of School Prefect To have a willingness to serve, and to complete the assigned job for a period of one year. To show a real commitment to the assigned role. To have a sensible disposition and pleasant nature allowing for good relationships with all members of the school family. To demonstrate good leadership skills and to show initiative. To be caring and considerate to others. To have the Ability to communicate with all age groups. LEAD TEACHER- Mr G Caughter Miss L Roberts

8. Role of a Playground Buddy To help children find new friends. To make children feel comfortable and welcome. To give support to children to find solutions to a problem. To help children if they fall over and comfort them. To teach children new games. To ask the lunchtime supervisors if they are unsure of what to do in a situation. To help to put away playtime equipment. LEAD TEACHER- Mrs M Lewis

9. Elections All children will vote, but candidates cannot vote for themselves. The teacher asks the pupils who would like to put themselves forward. – Two representatives from each class. Elections will take place on the first full week of the Autumn Term. Pupils who want to be a Councillor or Committee representative must prepare a speech or presentation and share it with the class. The children will be given notice of when the elections will take place. The election will be by secret ballot in each classroom.-ballot papers Following elections the elected members are presented to the school and photos are updated. All Council / Committee members will be presented with a badge to wear everyday to show they are members of the different Councils / Committees. Once elected they represent their class for a year. Pupils can be elected to a Council / Committee no more than twice A child can only be on one Council / Committee each year. The Lead teacher assigns the roles. The Vice Chair may take on the role of Chair the following year should they wish.

10. How is each child’s voice heard? Children’s ideas are placed in the department suggestion box When Council / Committee member is reporting back ideas and opinions are shared e.g. circle time. Council / Committee member look through suggestion box and takes appropriate ideas to the next meeting. Ideas discussed during Any Other Business (A.O.B), if Council / Committee supports the idea it is added to the next agenda. Council / Committee representative reports progress of suggestions back to class after meetings. Council members have the opportunity to present findings in whole school assembly meeting times and to members of the Governing Board twice yearly.

11. Rules and Responsibilities Follow the school rules and act as role models to the other pupils in school. Be prepared for meetings. Participate in meetings; don’t be afraid to share ideas. Be committed to your role. Listen carefully (in meetings and to class mates) and respect other opinions. Make sure pupil voices are heard. Only bring sensible suggestions to meetings.

12. The presentation should include:- Why you want to become a Councillor/ Prefect etc. The personal qualities you possess which will enable you to fulfil the role. How you demonstrate these skills and qualities already, both in and out of school What you think you can offer to the school.

13. Sanctions Council / Committee member is given the opportunity to explain behaviour. Council/ Committee members will advise Lead Teacher before decision is made (level of sanction). Sanctions (All incident to be noted in the Sanctions book, kept by Chairperson) A – Verbal warning. B – Miss next meeting and parents to be informed. Councillor / Committee member from parallel class to feedback to absent member’s class. C – Excluded from all Councils / Committees until the end of the school year. They can put themselves forward for election the following year. When Council / Committees are discussing the incident and sanctions, the member in question will leave the room.

14.
