Senior College Prep English Read a variety of works including poetry, short stories, essays, plays and novels Write types of writing (narrative, persuasive (APA format), expository, and informative) Analyze & Interpret Literature Literary analysis focusing on literary elements and the text as support

Texts Novels: Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, O’Brien’s The Things They Carried, Weisel’s Night Novellas: Kafka’s Metamorphosis, Camus’ The Stranger and more Play: Shakespeare’s Hamlet Poetry : sonnets, ballads, haikus, etc. *and many short stories…

Article of the Week Students will receive a non-fiction article that ranges from educational and political topics to current events. Students have to read the article, underline main points, circle two “difficult” words and define, and write a 4 sentence reflection. 15 pts and given out the first day of the week… due at the end of the week Articles are posted on website at the start of the week!

Grading Procedures Assessments (Tests, Essays, Projects, etc)- 50% Quizzes (Plot/Reading/Vocab, Rough Drafts)- 25% Classwork (Homework & Classwork – Articles of the Week) – 25% Late Policy: For every day late -10% up to 3 days late and then cannot be accepted
