Semester 1 Final Exam Short Stories We have read the following short stories: Rikki Tiki Tavi Three Skeleton Key The Dive Seventh Grade That October The War of the Wall A Day’s Wait Stolen Day You need to know the following: Author Characters Setting Main Conflict (internal or external?) Three Main Events Climax

2. The Red Pony You need to know the following: Main Characters Conflict in each chapter Three Main Events in each chapter How the protagonist changes over the course of the entire novel.

3. 5 Paragraph Essay You need to know the following: Introduction: Four Parts Three Body Paragraphs: Four Parts Conclusion: Four Parts You must be able to read an essay and dissect it.

4. Plot Diagram You need to know the 5 parts of the plot diagram: Exposition, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, Resolution. Definition for each.

5. Characterization Know the two different types of characterization: Direct and Indirect Example of Direct 5 types of Indirect Characterization: Appearance, Actions, Speech, Thoughts and Feelings, Other Character’s Reactions. An example for each from the novels or short stories that we have read.

6. Vocabulary 25 words on the final exam. I will give you 10 that will be on the exam and choose 15 at random. Sentences.

7. Final Exam Notes You can use your notes on the exam. Except for vocabulary!
