Hint: Think like a movie critic I would like to give a good report. But you need to be writing. Everyone should be in their seat.Right now I cannot give a good report.  Gentlemen why are you throwing paper?Thank you students in the front of the room for writing. If you’re done sit quietly.

5 Mini-Lesson How is dialogue shown through a comic strip? Dictionary.com says that dialogue is: 1.conversation between two or more people. 2.the conversation between characters in a novel, drama, etc. 3.an exchange of ideas or opinions on a particular issue, especially a political or religious issue, with a view to reaching an amicable agreement or settlement. Give an example of how dialogue is shown through a comic strip in your notes. Stick figures acceptable ( )

6 Work Session Create a graphic story strip over the story “Rogue Wave”. Today you will work on your rough draft. REQUIREMENTS Your comic strip will need to be 6 frames/boxes/squares/rectangles. 1) Title of Story 2) Exposition 3) Rising Action/Conflict 4) Climax 5) Falling Action 6) Resolution *** Use speech bubbles for dialogue*** 1)2) 3) 4)5) 6)

7 1. Exposition This usually occurs at the beginning of a short story. Here the characters are introduced. We also learn about the setting of the story. Most importantly, we are introduced to the main conflict (main problem).

8 2. Rising Action This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s). A building of interest or suspense occurs.

9 3. Climax This is the turning point of the story. Usually the main character comes face to face with a conflict. The main character will change in some way.

10 4. Falling Action All loose ends of the plot are tied up. The conflict(s) and climax are taken care of.

11 5. Resolution The story comes to a reasonable ending.
