Why writing the LMCC should be a piece of cake You’ve made it this far You’re a professional exam writer You have plenty of experience with the MCQ / CDMQ format You will be surprised by how much you know It’s always easier trying to learn things the 2 nd time around The exam is fair and will stratify you based on your strengths (contrary to popular belief, this is to your advantage!)

4. BASIC STRATEGIES Make a plan! You have plenty of time, but you should spend it wisely Be strategic – focus your time on things that will give you the highest yield This should be your new job… seriously! 9-5, no more than that or you will drive yourself nuts Keep up with things that make you happy Study with friends

Topics to cover 1)internal medicine (600 pages TO notes), 2)Surgery (350 pages TO notes) 3)Pediatrics (100 pages TO notes), 4)obstetrics and gynecology (100 pages TO notes), 5)Psychiatry (60 pages TO notes), and 6)population health and the considerations of the legal, ethical and organizational aspects of the practice of medicine (45 pages TO notes).

Focus of study Highest yield with studying Peds, Obs-Gyne, Psych, Ethics and Pop Health Surgery and Internal Medicine are VERY broad topics to study Focus on the essentials and the common things, your basics The exam is not meant to trick you, don’t overthink it! (ie. Some soon to be psych residents failed the psych part because they overthought it…)

Surgery and Medicine Attend B2B lectures, it’s the best way to power your way through lots of material Use Case Files Do practice questions Study with people who are matched to those specialties (they spent their entire 4 th year doing electives in this discipline) Focus on the basics – general surgery, minimal subspecialty, general internal medicine (cardio, resp, nephro, GI)

10. Format MCQ – 28 questions per section Weight of the question based on its difficulty This part is worth 75% of your mark CDMQ – total of 45-55 cases (average 80 questions) This part is worth 25% of your mark One of your stronger categories can compensate for a weaker one!

How to take the test Once again, don’t panic It’s a long day, but it goes by very quickly Get a good night’s sleep, bring some snacks, look after your basic needs… Keep in mind, you ARE prepared, you’ve been working towards this for 4 years Most people do better than they think! Almost everyone feels like they can’t get a sense of how they did until the scores come in.

Continued Don’t linger on questions, recommendations suggest 1 minute per question, maximum 3 Flag questions to review You usually don’t have time to review all of your questions, trust your instinct MOST OF ALL, REMEMBER THIS IS THE FINISH LINE AND AN END TO YOUR LONG HERMIT PERIOD. LET THE SUMMER BEGIN
