What are pink dolphins? Also known as the Chinese white dolphin and the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin, the pink dolphins are a species of humpback dolphins and they are 1 of the 80 cetacean species. Adult dolphins are usually grey or white. The population along the Chinese coast is unique because they have a pink coloured skin.

Where can we find pink dolphins? Pink dolphins are found in the blue area. Most of the dolphins are found in the waters of north Lantau, Southeast Lantau, the Soko islands and Peng Chau. Some of them also inhabit the Amazon river, Orinoco basin, the upper Madeira river and some parts of Brazil.

What and how do they eat? Pink dolphins eat a large quantity of food per day. They do not like to eat alone, so when they find a school of fish, they make a loud sound. Their pod will hear the sound and dive under the fishes and bring them to the surface. They eat crustaceans, catfish and small fresh water fishes. They hunt zooplankton at night.

Threats The waters of Hong Kong are a dangerous place for pink dolphins, due to poaching, landfills and sea traffic. In the Pearl river delta, about 190,000 cubic metres of sewage is drained into the sea.
