7 Notes-take out a sheet of paper, label your notes pg. # 1. Tea Act (1773) a.Cut cost of tea sold by East India Company i.Price could ‘undersell’ smugglers b. Colonists felt this price forced them to pay tax

8 Tea Act C. Boston Tea Party-Dec. 16 1773 i.Act of defiance by colonists ii.Tossed tea overboard into Boston Harbor (why would they do this???)

9 2. Intolerable Acts A. Parliaments way of punishing Massachusetts for the protests that came before I.Closed port of Boston until tea they dumped was paid for II.Boston could only hold one town meeting/year

10 2. Intolerable Acts iii. v. Took land away from settlers in Ohio Valley iv. Stand trial in Britain for any offence committed. (So…what do YOU think the Colonists will do???)

11 3. First Continental Congress A. Philadelphia, 1774 i.Colonies sent delegates to decide ‘what to do next’ B. Drew up a list of rights that Parliament should respect and to boycott British-made goods.

12 3. Continental Congress C. Declared loyalty to the KING but NOT to Parliament D. Defend themselves from future British attacks
