2  Until the late 1700’s the 13 colonies were under the control of Great Britain(England).

3  The British fought in the French and Indian War. They lost lots of money and needed some more.  They began to tax the people living in the 13 colonies.  The colonists were angry!!! No one asked them if they wanted or should pay.

5  The Declaration of Independence is a document that explained the colonies plan for democracy.  It also listed all the ways that the king of Great Britain (England) wronged the colonist.

6  Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence.

7  The Declaration of Independence was written on July 4, 1776.

8  The Declaration of Independence was written in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

9  The Declaration of Independence was written because King George made unfair laws, had too many taxes, and told the colonist they couldn’t vote.

10  The American Revolution was a war that was fought to gain freedom from England.

11  The first war in the American Revolution was fought at Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts.  The people chose George Washington to lead the Continental Army against the British.  The war lasted 8 years, 1775-1783.

14  This means that all people are made the same and should be treated equal.

15  This means God made us and we have certain rights.
