Step 1 Open Microsoft Word NEW document Go to “page set up” under FILE Set top, left, bottom, and right margins to one inch each. DO NOT change the gutter sizes.

Step 2 Pull down FORMAT menu and choose FONT Change font to Times New Roman, size 12. Pull down FORMAT again and choose paragraph. Change LINE SPACING to double and make sure there are 0s everywhere else.

Step 3 Pull down VIEW menu to HEADER AND FOOTER. This will open up the header for you. On top menu, align right Type your last name, leave a space, and then choose the icon of a page with a # in the middle to place the page number. Recheck and make sure all of that is in Times New Roman 12 pt. Then CLOSE the floating bar.

Step 4 Begin by typing your first and last names, then “enter” Next line is “Mrs. Urness-Pondillo” – then enter Next line is English IV, then enter Final line is date: 19 November 2013 (in that order), then enter

Step 5 Do not make an extra space between your heading and your title Center the title and capitalize properly Enter and change to ALIGN LEFT again for the paper. Each paragraph should be indented by hitting the TAB button once (or ½ inch)

Internal Citations When you’ve used information from one of your sources, whether it is a direct quote or not, you MUST cite where you found it. Internal citations go INSIDE the end punctuation and are confined by PARENTHESIS. List the last name of the author and the page number in the internal citation, but with Internet resources you will cite only the first word in the Works Cited entry. Looks like this: …before the end (Jones 44) or (Careership)

Works Cited Page Is a continued page of your paper and will have the header on it. Center top – Works Cited To get proper format for each source, use one of the online services on my website. The four sources will be in alphabetical order based on the first word of the citation. The page is double-spaced with hanging indents.

Hanging Indents Once you’ve typed your Works Cited on the page and centered it, return to ALIGN LEFT for the list of sources. Pull down the FORMAT menu and go to PARAGRAPH. Under SPECIAL, choose HANGING and you are set.
