2 Dutch Elm Disease is caused by a fungus Ophiostoma novo-ulmi. Discovered by 7 women scientists in 1917 in Holland. It’s place of origin is in Asia Travel to Europe sometime in the early 1900’s It traveled to the United States in the 1930’s on affected logs

3 The vectors of Dutch Elm Disease are the European Elm Bark Beetle and the Native Elm Bark Beetle.

6 Yellowing of the leaves Affect individual branches Brown streaking in the sapwood.

7 Infected trees must be immediately cut down and burned, buried, or chipped. Fungicide injections can be injected in healthy elms, but they are costly and there is still a possibility that the tree can still get the disease.

8 Plant disease resistant trees. There are many hybrid elm trees.
