4. 4 History 1942-Maritime Institute in Sopot as a part of the Secret University of Western Lands. 1945- The Higher Economic School in Gdynia. 1946 - Formal creation of the Higher School of Maritime Trade in Gdynia. 1952- The Higher School of Economics in Sopot. The Higher School of Economics in SopotThe Higher School of Pedagogics in Wrzeszcz 1970- University of Gdansk (The Higher School of Economics in Sopot + The Higher School of Pedagogics in Wrzeszcz). 1993- both Faculties of the Economics changed their Names: The Faculty of the Economics of Production into The Faculty of Management. 7. 7 The Bologna system of education For the 2005/2006 academic year, the University of Gdansk has introduced in almost all fields of day studies a two-tier system of education. The first tier of education embraces three years of vocational studies leading to the vocational degree of licencjat (Bachelor). Each graduate of vocational studies will be able to continue education with a two-year course of Master’s studies, and then a three- or four-year course of Doctoral studies.

11. 11 Our faculty prides itself on: fifty years of experience in research and collecting documentation connected with European integration research and didactic staff which has experience in practice possibility of teaching the students how to conduct a stock- exchange transaction in real time in the only dealing room of that kind in Poland cooperation with foreign research centers 42 agreements with European high schools concluded within Erasmus/Socrates programmes; about 100 students studied abroad in 2003 cooperation with economic practice
