Seog Oh/ Duke University/Oct, 2002 TRT/ ATLAS week at CERN Wire-joint Status One wire-joint production stations was reactivated in June and the other in July The average production rate has been about ~80/station/8 hour shift. QC Pull test for the first three wire-joints before production Requirement : the breakage has to occur other than wire- joint. Usual breaking tension : ~200 gram Visual inspection of every wire-joints Image of every wire-joint is captured and saved Need ~200/day to meet the schedule

Seog Oh/ Duke University/Oct, 2002 TRT/ ATLAS week at CERN Stringing Status Before the stringing halt due to joint problem, 11 Type 2 and 1 Type 3 modules were strung. Both stations are active. 15 Type 2 and 8 Type 3 modules are waiting to be strung. 30-40/day/station without re-work Re-work : After the stringing, ~5-10% of wires are replaced low tension < 50 grams ~ 130 Hz Abs( T(front)-T(back)) >5 Hertz HV problem – tested at 1700 V

Seog Oh/ Duke University/Oct, 2002 TRT/ ATLAS week at CERN Module 2.12 2.12 History The first module strung since the stringing resumption Mechanical construction was completed in Sept, 2001. Wire was cleaned only once just before it entered the module with 99% isopropyl alcohol in ultrasonic cleaner. Exhibited many odd wave forms in the tension measurement. Operation, signal test Current draw : nothing unusual => <1 uA after a few days 4 noise channels -> reverse voltaged 3 ASD groups (3x16 straws) -> Ok after reverse voltage Very few wires with local gain dip -> little problem with ‘dirt’ on the wire surface No correlation between odd looking wave form and gain variation Preliminary gain map exhibits no gross misalignment -> waiting for HU’s full gain mapping.

Seog Oh/ Duke University/Oct, 2002 TRT/ ATLAS week at CERN Summary Wire-joint production and stringing is in full production mode. Should not be problem meeting the schedule – completion by August, 2003. 2.12 Proper wire cleaning is important. No obvious alignment problem Do not understand the odd tension wave forms. Re- measurement shows the same.
