2015-16 PWB Parent Meeting 4 Your child's success or lack of success in sports does not indicate what kind of parent you are. 4 But having an athlete that is coachable, respectful, a great teammate, mentally tough, resilient and tries their best IS a direct reflection of your parenting. 4 Let us create a good coach/parent relationship for the benefit of the children 4 The root cause of most conflict is different expectations 4 I’ve tried to communicate my expectations 4 Let me know about yours 4 My two biggest parental concerns –Your kids (and their friends) hear much of what you say –Please don’t make excuses for the team or your child 1

The Player's Responsibilities 4 Effort, Concentration, Attitude 4 Respect Teammates, Opponents, Officials, Facilities and Parents –Leave the locker room cleaner than when you arrived –No throwing ice, tape, etc. in the locker room –No bad language or being disrespectful of others or their property 4 Pack your bag and be ready for your parents – help get to the rink on time 4 Maintain and carry your own gear 4 Take care of their bodies – Nutrition and Sleep 4 Get homework done so you don’t miss practices and games 4 Be dressed and ready to skate 10 minutes before practices (after 5:10 pm) 4 Be at games 45 minutes before game time to warm up as a team 4 Fill the water bottles, carry pucks out, pick up the pucks and bottles 4 Use a mouth guard every time you’re on the ice 4 Represent CHA with pride in the community, including at school 4 No cell phones in the locker room 4 Be accountable for your actions 4 Player's Code of Conduct 4

The Parents' Responsibilities 4 The team needs your assistance over the course of the season –Time keepers and score keepers, web site, statistics, schedule checking 4 When asked, please confirm you’ve received e-mail 4 Please have players at the rink in time to be dressed and ready to skate –10 minutes before practices after 5:10 pm and 45 minutes before games –Call if late and dress elsewhere if not ready 10 min before a game 4 Give coaches 5 min with the team after games and practices before 8 pm 4 If your player needs to leave immediately after practice or game –Leave the ice 10 min early - be out of the room before the team enters 4 Parents Code of Conduct – 24 Hour Rule 4 Lead by example, on and off the ice –Responsible use of alcohol when players may be present –No Alcohol inside the rink doors –Be accountable for your actions 4 Players fear the ride home 4 Relax, Its Just a Game 5

Coaching Philosophy and Goals 4 Have Fun and Work Hard 4 Develop self-esteem and gain confidence –>85% positive feedback –Equal ice time over the season – I usually just roll the lines –Its natural to make mistakes and learn from them – What options did you have? What were you thinking at the time? 4 Learn the value of preparation 4 Respect the dignity of individuals (teammates - opponents - referees) 4 Value teamwork 4 Improve fundamental skills 4 Use their brains, be creative 4 All players will practice as Forwards and Defense –I may move some F to D and vice versa 4 Player Feedback - brief evaluations 4 Emphasize school work – I’d like to see Report Cards, Tests, Projects, etc. 6

Roster/Games 4 Pee Wee B has 12 outskaters and 1 Goalie - commitment 4 Games –7 F and 5 D, or 8 F and 4 D –rotate F 3 shifts out of every 8 (or 3 very 7), and D 2 out of 5 –Often pair strong defensive players with those who are learning –Centers must backcheck and play excellent D zone position –Players will miss shifts for discipline issues or lack of effort –I usually do not start my strongest offensive or defensive players because I may put them on the ice for the last minute of a close game –I will penalize players additionally to stop retaliation or dangerous play 4 Power Play - Everybody plays 4 Penalty Kill - All who learn the 1-1-2, box, and plays short shifts, will kill penalties. I’ll often pair a strong penalty killer with a player who is learning. 4 Captains - I look for those who lead by example – sometimes there aren’t any at this age 7
