1931 – Japan begins to expand their territorial holdings July 1937 – Japan invades China 1939 – Cash and carry policy takes effect 1940 – Germany, Italy and Japan sign the Tripartite Pact 1940 – Selective Training and Service Act is passed by Congress March 1941 – Lend-Lease Act is passed June 1941 – Hitler invades Soviet Union July 1941 – Japan takes control of French Indochina Summer 1941 – US imposes a trade embargo on Japan (Oil is primary target) September 1941 – German U-Boat attacks increase December 1941 – Japan attacks Pearl Harbor

This is a failure of epic proportions US knows of plans to attack here in January of 1941 Hideki Tojo takes control in October 1941 We ignored many warning signs US had broken their secret code We know what they are planning Japanese fleet leaves Japan on November 25 th, 1941 Peace talks break down in December 1941 What happens on December 7 th is nothing short of a disaster

Six aircraft carries with 180 planes attack at 7:55 AM There are two separate attacks (8:55 AM) Attacks on other bases on Oahu as well The entire attack lasts less than two hours The aftermath: 2,403 dead 1,178 wounded 21 ships sunk or damaged 300 aircraft damaged or destroyed Three aircraft carries did escape
