1. WHAT CAUSES CANCER? By: Group Two.

2. WHAT IS CANCER?  Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells grow and cannot be controlled in a body.

3. WHAT IS A CARCINOGEN?  Carcinogen is a substance that can cause cancer in humans/animals. It does not directly cause cancer though, their is different way scientist group Carcinogen. examples are heavy metals, Afflation B1, Tar from cigarette smoke!, Gamma rays, and asbestos

4. HOW DOES A CARCINOGEN ACT? WHAT CAN HAPPN?  A carcinogen may act on DNA that can make dangerous changes to the cell. It may work to increase the rate of cell division.This change in cell division may work to increase the probability of DNA changes. Some carcinogens promote the development of cancer in other ways as well.

5. THE ERRORS WHICH CAUSE CANCER ARE OFTEN SELF-AMPLIFYING.  A mutation in the error-correcting machinery of a cell might cause that cell and its children to accumulate errors more rapidly  A mutation in signaling machinery of the cell can send error-causing signals to nearby cells  A mutation might cause cells to become neoplastic, causing them to migrate and disrupt more healthy cells  A mutation may cause the cell to become immortal causing them to disrupt healthy cells forever. All these are ways that mutations cause cancer.

6. THERE IS MANY KNOWN CAUSES FOR CONTRIBUTING FACTORS AND GETTING CANCER  For some more information and exsamples look at the next slide

7. VIRAL OR BACTERIAL INFECTION  Many cancers can be made from viral infections. Animals have easier time getting cancer this way. In humans viruses are responsible for fifteen of human cancers.

TWO FACTS THAT ARE ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF CANCER.  grilled chicken has formed higher concentrations of these cancer-causing substances than other types of cooked meat.9  The consumption of high-fat foods such as meat, dairy products, fried foods, and even vegetable oils causes a woman’s body to make more estrogens, which encourage cancer cell growth in the breast and other organs that are sensitive to female sex hormones

THE LAST TWO FACTS THAT ARE ABOUT THE DEVELOPMENT OF CANCER  consistent association between grilled or broiled, but not fried, meat consumption and stomach cancer implies that dietary exposure to PAHs may play a role in the development of stomach cancer in humans.  Countries with a higher intake of fat, especially fat from animal products, such as meat and dairy products, have a higher incidence of breast cance
