3 Verb This part of speech serves as a sentence’s simple predicate. It can be in the present, past, or future tense It can be linking, helping, or action The man ran to the store. Ran is a verb it tells what the man is doing.

4 Noun This part of speech names a person, place, or thing Nouns can be abstract or concrete They can also be proper or common ………Common……… The girl was happy. ……..Proper… … My Grandma shops at Walmart.

5 Pronoun The part of speech that replaces a noun Pronouns can be interrogative, possessive, or personal ………………example……………. He ran outside to play tag

6 Adverb This part of speech modifies adjectives and verbs Adverbs often include words that end in -ly The girl happily opened the gift. ………………………… ……..

7 Preposition A common way to remember this part of speech is “anywhere a mouse can go” It shows how a noun or pronoun is related to some other word in the sentence ……………example……… …. The girl went outside to play.

8 Conjunction This part of speech connects two words,phrases,clauses,or sentences Conjunctions may be coordinating,subordinating,or correlative ………..example.................. The girl went to play hop-scotch and,the boy rode his bike.

9 Interjection The part of speech frequently begins sentences, and expresses the speaker’s strong emotion Less common examples are “um” and “er” “oh!” and “wow!” are examples

10 Articles This part of speech only has three examples in English They are “a”,”an”,and “the” “a” and “an” are indefinite and “the is definite
