5. POPULAR CULTURE: MUSICAL INFLUENCES ON AUSTRALIA. American fathers and Australian fathers were trying to shield their daughters from this influence. (Think Conservative. ) Elvis’s music was seen as dangerous, sexual and black. Australian artist (Johnny O Keefe – an Australian rock and roll singer emulated Presley) and this led the way for local musicians and performers to top the “pop charts” in Australia for example Easybeats, The Seekers. Generally however, music from America and Britain continued to dominate the charts through the 1950’s and 1960’s.

6. Popular music in the 1960’s was often connected with social protest movements and civil rights campaign. Peace, freedom difference and choice were strong themes. For example Bob Dylan American singer was very popular.
